S’Agaró
Sant Pol bay is a tourist centre of undoubted interest, whose eastern part with the residential area of S´Agaró belongs to the municipal district of Castell-Platja d´Aro, while the western part lies in the municipality of Sant Feliu de Guíxols.
Sant Pol beach has fine sand and shallow waters. At the western end there is a modern villa dating from the end of the 19 th century: Casa Estrada or Torre de les Punxes. The central part of the beach has a sand dune zone of considerable ecologic interest.
At the other end of the bay there stretches out the residential area of S´Agaró, a development that the Ensesa family built from 1924 onwards under the direction of the great Girona architect Rafael Masó. At the entrance of the estate is the 1932 Hostal de La Gavina, whose gardens house the Venus of S´Agaró by Joan Rebull. Another important building is the church of Mare de Déu de l´Esperança, dating from 1940, and built in the neo-baroque style by the architect Francesc Folguera.
One small trip not to be missed takes us along the Camí de Ronda, made in 1940, until we come to the beautiful Sa Conca bay.
Castell-Platja d’Aro
Our unrivalled location, on the coast and near the main transport routes, the number of businesses, the variety of nightlife and leisure opportunities and the quality of our tourist facilities are just some of the main attractions of Platja d’Aro, Castell d’Aro and S’Agaró. All of these can be enjoyed all year long, and have made us one the main destinations of the Costa Brava, and one of the most popular of the whole of the Mediterranean.
Modern, cosmopolitan Platja d’Aro sits alongside elegant S’Agaró, where a recognised circular route skirts the peaceful streets of the old town. Castell d’Aro is the historical centre, and preserves all its medieval charm.
The borough’s three dynamic, attractive towns complement each other perfectly, and combine sport, culture, leisure and business in a natural setting, centred on the delightful seafront, with its impressive, endless beach and idyllic little bays.
Platja d’Aro remains full of life all year round, with a complete programme of events and festivals, such as Carnival, the Beer Festival and the Medieval Market in Castell d’Aro. Businesses and other organisations also hold conferences and conventions here, shaping the projects and innovations of the future.
