Description
The Dalí Theatre-Museum, inaugurated in 1974, was built on the remains of the former theatre of Figueres and houses the most comprehensive collection representing the artistic career of Salvador Dalí (1904–1989).
The museum displays works ranging from Dalí’s early artistic experiments, through his surrealist period, to creations from the final years of his life. Highlights include Port Alguer (1924), The Spectre of Sex Appeal (1932), Soft Self-Portrait with Fried Bacon (1941), Poetry of America – The Cosmic Athletes (1943), Galarina (1944–45), Basket of Bread (1945), Leda Atomica (1949) and Galatea of the Spheres (1952).
The Dalí Theatre-Museum should be viewed as a single, unified artwork—Dalí’s greatest creation—since every element was designed by the artist himself to provide visitors with a fully immersive experience into his unique and captivating world.
